Garage Door

The lower section of the garage is a more recent improvement from a previous owner. There is hardly any paint on the wood so the sanding is moving along nicely. The top half of the garage is original and I've spent many hours on the ladder up there trying to fade peeled areas in from the wood to the most recent of about 6 layers of paint.

Workshop Door

The door frame is exposed to a lot of sunshine which translated to many hours sanding for me. I spent another 3 days working on the area to the left of the door and then replacing the door and jamb. The original jamb was rotted out and the door had an incredible amount of paint caked onto it as well as major rot on the base. I'm thinking of cutting out the panels of the old door and using them as canvasses for paintings or cutting them into picture frames. Better than going to the landfill. Fortunately we had another door left over from the previous owners that I was able to cut to size. Now onto the rest of the wall....

Garage Paint Project

We've decided that it's time to paint both of our Bungalows. This is the largest paint project I have undertaken, so I thought it would be a good idea to start with the garage. The back of the garage so my initial mistakes won't be so obvious. I considered power washing to start but was concerned about leaving moisture in the wood as well as scoring. I've been scraping and then sanding with a 5" orbital sander knocking loose any peeling, cracking or failing paint. Shaded sections have gone pretty quickly while the sun exposed areas have taken quite a bit of time. The work in the photo above took approximately 3 days.
